Components of Computer Network
Components of Computer Network
The components that make up a computer network are -
1. Client
2. Server
3. Middleware
4. Router and Switch
5. IP address
Client - Client is a computer that retrieves information from or uses resources
provided by the server or main computer.
Server - A server is an instance of a computer program that accepts and responds
to requests made by client.
Servers are used to manage network resources.
For example, a user may
setup a server to control access to a network, send/receive e-mail, manage
print jobs, or host a website.
Application Servers
- Audio/Video Servers
- Chat Servers
- Fax Servers
- FTP Servers
- Groupware Servers
- IRC Servers
- List Servers
- Mail Servers
- Proxy Servers
- Telnet Servers
- Web Servers
Middleware is the software that connects two otherwise separate
applications.
Most networks today, including all computers on the Internet, use the
TCP/IP protocol as the standard for how to communicate on the network.
In the TCP/IP protocol, the unique identifier for a computer is called its IP
address.
TCP - is responsible for verifying the correct delivery of data from client to
server. IP - is responsible for moving packet of data from node to node.
